Uncertainty in deliberate lexical interventions

Language managers in their different forms (language planners, terminologists, professional neologists …) have long tried to intervene in the lexical usage of speakers, with various degrees of success: Some of their lexical items (partly) penetrate language use, others do not. Based on electronic networks of practice of the Esperanto speech community, Mélanie Maradan establishes the foundation for a new method to extract speakers’ opinions on lexical items from text corpora. The method is intended as a tool for language managers to detect and explore in context the reasons why speakers might accept or reject lexical items. Mélanie Maradan holds a master’s degree in translation and terminology from the University of Geneva/Switzerland as well as a joint doctoral degree in multilingual information processing and philosophy (Dr. phil.) from the universities of Geneva and Hildesheim/Germany. Her research interests include planned languages (Esperanto studies) as well as neology and corpus linguistics. She works as a professional translator and terminologist in Switzerland

Le partenariat entre aidants naturels et soignants dans la prise en soin des personnes atteintes de la maladie d’Alzheimer à domicile

L’étude développée s’insère dans une problématique traitant du partenariat qu’établissent les infirmières travaillant à domicile avec les aidants naturels des personnes atteintes de la maladie d’Alzheimer, notamment en ce qui touche au rôle infirmier dans cette démarche de soin en vue d’un partenariat actif. La recherche s’intéresse, d’une part, aux caractéristiques des aidants, à leurs besoins, et d’autre part, à leur satisfaction dans ce rôle et au soutien dont ils bénéficient, afin de proposer des actions réelles sur le terrain en vue de concrétiser ce partenariat entre l’infirmière du domicile et l’aidant principal de la personne démente

Terminologie de l'effet Doppler allemand-anglais-espagnol-espéranto-français

Ce mémoire présente une terminologie de l'effet Doppler (allemand-anglais-espagnol-espéranto-français), comprenant notamment les groupes de concepts suivants : types d'effet Doppler, ondes, sources et cibles, milieux, vitesses, et référentiel. La partie théorique du travail aborde l'exhaustivité, l'harmonisation et le statut des termes dans le travail terminologique thématique. La partie pratique consiste en 70 fiches pentalingues destinées à un public de traducteurs sans connaissances scientifiques spécialisées. Chaque concept est présenté sur une double page, une fiche incluant une partie commune et cinq parties linguistiques. Les termes sont indexés par langue à la fin du travail pour faciliter la recherche. Du point de vue technique, les fiches ont été saisies dans une base de données créée sur mesure, exportées et transformées programmatiquement au format PDF. Dealing with uncertainty in deliberate lexical interventions: A method for gathering data from a speech community, exemplified by Esperanto speakers

Language managers in their different forms (language planners, terminologists, professional neologists…) have long tried to intervene in the lexical usage of speakers, with various degrees of success: Some of their lexical items penetrate language use, others do not. To address this issue, previous researchers have often sought to gain a better understanding of lexical implantation phenomena. In this thesis, I assert that the problem language managers face is a typical applied science problem: The goal of their research should not be to know but to do. I suggest that language managers should continuously gather information from the speech community to adapt their strategies on the go and to enhance the effectiveness of their interventions. Taking advantage of the Esperanto speech community, I empirically demonstrate, through a focus group study and a corpus study, how monitoring data on opinionated autonyms could help language managers absorb uncertainty in their deliberate lexical interventions

Des réflexions interlinguistiques à une discipline scientifique: élaboration et influence du Dictionnaire encyclopédique espéranto-allemand (1923) d'Eugen Wüster

Eugen Wüster (1898-1977), ingénieur de langue maternelle allemande, s'est distingué dans la communauté scientifique et technique principalement par ses activités de normalisation terminologique et sa théorie générale de la terminologie. Cependant, il a également été un pionnier de l'espérantologie et dans une plus large mesure de l'interlinguistique. Notre contribution s'inscrit dans le domaine de l'interlinguistique en tant qu'étude des langues planifiées, et plus précisément dans le sous-domaine de l'espérantologie comme étude de la langue planifiée espéranto. Elle vise d'une part à présenter l'un des nombreux objets d'étude de l'interlinguistique par un éclairage historique et d'autre part à illustrer l'apport significatif que peut fournir l'interlinguistique au-delà de son domaine d'étude
